DSD ( Digital Smile Design)

What Is Digital Smile Design? It is a treatment planning protocol that allows for careful analysis of the patient’s facial and dental structures through state-of-the-art videography and digital technology. Today, the DSD Concept is considered the most modern, patient-centred design approach available. This allows a dental provider to take digital planning to the next level as well as enhances predictability and communication between the dentist and patients.

  • Smile Makeover:

A smile makeover is a combination of cosmetic and restorative dental procedures that are used to correct dental imperfections and enhance the overall appearance of the teeth and smile. An evaluation of the alignment, symmetry, condition, size, shape, and shade of each tooth, along with a discussion of the patient’s goals, provides the dentist with the information he needs to develop a custom smile makeover treatment plan. this ties together with DSD using facially driven 3D software planning. Options here can include:

  • Veneers:

With the ability to correct a wide number of common tooth imperfections simultaneously, porcelain veneers are one of our most popular cosmetic dentistry options. Porcelain veneers can conceal the appearance of chips, cracks, gaps, spaces, stains, discoloration, and even mild tooth misalignment. These thin, durable, 3D custom-made porcelain shells are affixed to the front surface of the tooth for natural-looking, long-lasting results. Designer Smiles works with a high-quality in house digital lab to create veneers with an optimal fit and superior aesthetics to give you the smile you have been dreaming of.

  • Crowns:

A severely damaged or decayed tooth may create cosmetic imperfections, become a source of sensitivity, or lead to significant pain. Crowns are designed to reinforce and restore the structural integrity of a tooth, while preserving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. With this procedure, the Designer Smiles team can often prevent the need for a tooth extraction. When a root canal is necessary to improve the health of the tooth, a porcelain crown can be used to strengthen the tooth structure, while also rejuvenating its appearance. A porcelain crown may be the ideal solution for patients who seek to restore both the function and aesthetics of a damaged or decayed tooth.

  • Laser Whitening:

Over time, teeth can become stained or discoloured by certain foods and beverages, tobacco products, or simply the natural aging process. Brightening the shade of your teeth can be one of the fastest ways to significantly improve the appearance of your smile and boost your confidence. Here at Designer Smiles we offer the latest laser teeth whitening which can lighten the colour of your teeth up to three to six shades with just one in-chair  treatment. • Gum Lift and Contouring:

Are you conscious of your gummy smile? A gum lift or gum contouring procedure involves removing excess gum tissue by shaping and contouring what a patient might refer to as the gummy section of their smile, at Designer Smiles this is done using guided digital state of the art techniques.

A gum lift is a cosmetic dentistry technique used by Designer Smiles to reshape the gums, lengthen the appearance of the teeth, and help you renew your smile giving you a youthful and flashy smile you never knew you had. The procedure is usually painless and recovery time is essentially zero.

  • INVISALIGN®

A smile can change everything

Your confidence. Your outlook. Your life. And with Invisalign, achieving the smile you always dreamed of doesn’t have to be a big deal. In fact, it barely has to impact your day-to-day life at all.

Invisalign straightens teeth using a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that are custom-made specifically for your teeth. As you replace each aligner every two weeks, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

Comfortable, clear and removable – Invisalign transforms your smile without disrupting your life. Something that over 3 million people worldwide have already discovered.

Invisalign® treats a range of straightening issues, ranging from minor tooth movements to more complex cases. Whatever the issue, the result is a new, more even smile that you will want everyone to see.

Here are some of the straightening issues that can be treated with Invisalign:

Overcrowded teeth occur when there is a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally.

Widely spaced teeth occur when you have extra space within your jaw.

Cross bites occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It usually causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and/or the sides of the mouth.

Deep bites occur when the upper teeth overlap significantly with the lower teeth.

Under bites occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth, usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both.

  • Conventional Braces:

Dental braces are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help position them with regard to a person’s bite, while also aiming to improve dental health. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, open bites, gaps, deep bites, cross bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. Braces can be either cosmetic or structural. Dental braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws.

  • Orthologics:

Orthlogics is a concept of orthopaedontics that is ideally started at the ages of 8 to 10  as a form of preventative treatment for orthodontic problems. intercepting these problems early improves jaw development and facial growth at the correct proportions, not to mention an immense satisfaction at the end result. However patients are not limited to their age for this treatment.

The excellent results of this mainly extraction free, surgery free approach accomplished with fixed appliances is the benchmark of the system and currently the fastest growing discipline in prevention dentistry. Don’t waste any more time, start your journey now!

  • Implant Dentistry

  • If you have missing teeth, traditional dentures are not your only option. In fact, a much more natural-looking and feeling dental procedure can replace missing teeth for a better aesthetic and improved chewing and speaking – and the best part is, it’s permanent.
  • A dental implant itself can be either a titanium or ceramic screw that is placed directly into your jawbone, replacing your missing tooth root. After it’s fitted, the bone surrounding your implant will gradually fuse to it, holding the implant firmly in place. A screw retained crown is then fitted to the top of the implant. The implant crown/s are similar in shape, size and colour to your existing teeth, meaning your implant will blend in naturally with your smile. A dental implant is a long-term, permanent, discreet solution for replacing missing or failing teeth. Having missing teeth can impact the way you eat and speak, which can knock your confidence.

  • Implants are a long-lasting, fixed solution and can last as long as your natural teeth as long as they’re cared for properly. One of the reasons people choose implants is that they are a permanent option compared to dentures and bridges. Because they are a fixed solution, you don’t need to worry about removing them for daily functioning, and there’s no risk of them falling out when you talk or laugh.
  • When you lose a tooth, the jawbone beneath it shrinks as it’s no longer stimulated by the tooth. Over time this can change the shape of your face, causing shrinkage thereby causing you to look older than you really are. Dental implants, like natural teeth, stimulate the jaw and prevent bone loss and ultimately give you a fuller look.

Here at Designer Smiles Inc. we offer the following treatments regarding implant treatment:

  • Titanium and/or ceramic implants
  • Immediate loading – Teeth in a day (this would depend on the type of case presented)
  • Guided implant dentistry: ths uses state of the art digital planning ensuring the case is pe planned with no room for mistakes, this is done using a guided stent
  • Type of implant restoration:

-Single: replacing a single tooth with a single implant

-Multiple teeth: many implants placed strategically to ensure proper function and aesthetics.

-Implant dentures, Fixed dentures, Over dentures: Implants placed in a jaw with no teeth with a denture fitted over ensuring more anchorage as compared to a conventional denture, can be removable or fixed.

  • Ceramic Implants

Ceramic dental implants are usually regarded as part of a more holistic approach to dentistry due to the stigma of them being ‘metal-free’. However, they also provide an additional option in the treatment spectrum of the general implantology practice and they are one of the biggest innovations in dentistry.

For the replacement of missing teeth, ceramic dental implants represent an innovative and modern treatment option in dentistry. An implant is usually a screw that is inserted into the jawbone with a minor surgical procedure and serves as a replacement for the tooth root. After three months of healing time, the implant is firmly attached to the bone (known as ‘osseointegrated’). At this point, a new crown or denture is attached to this artificial tooth root.

Due to increased health awareness among patients a ceramic dental implant is offered at Designer Smiles over the option of titanium implants for those patients who would prefer the metal free approach or for a patient that may be allergic to titanium.

Sedation + General Anaesthesia:

  • Conscious Sedation

Conscious sedation is a combination of medicines to help you relax (a sedative) and to block pain (and anaesthetic) during a dental procedure. This brings the patient into a calm and relaxing state which may cause sleepiness.
  • IV Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation is a type of anaesthesia (drugs that relax a patient and stop them from feeling pain). It is placed using a drip which results in an immediate sedative phase for the patient. This type of anaesthesia is usually for children that need multiple treatments done such as fillings and extractions, it is also an option for fearful adults. This type of treatment is done in the dental rooms with an anaesthetist present at all times. the major benefit of this is that the patient momentarily forgets any type of treatment that is done and usually recover faster.

Aesthetic Medicine:

  • Botox (TMJ)

If you’re unfamiliar with botox, it’s a neurotoxin protein that uses botulinum toxin Type A which is a temporary muscle paralysis. It’s traditionally injected into the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Botox for TMJ is injected into the jaw muscles, forehead, and temple depending on your symptoms. The injections will cause the jaw muscles to relax which can bring pain relief and decrease TMJ symptoms. After a few months, the results will wear off and require more injections for continuous relief. It also relieves headaches caused from stress and muscle tension.
  • Fillers

Fillers are a type of injectable that adds volume to the lips in order to create a bigger, plumper pout. They can also replace lost volume, smooth out wrinkles around the mouth area and create improved definition and shape. Fillers offer an immediate solution to plump the lips, and since they are not permanent, they are ideal for those who would like to change up their appearance without making any long-term commitments.

Holistic Dentistry:

  • Metal Fillings

At Designer Smiles Inc we are constantly innovating and bringing new technology to the fore. Using advanced technology in dentistry allows us to restore teeth in the most conservative, functional and aesthetic approach ever possible.  For the patient the end result is metal free crowns and bridges that look and feel like natural teeth. By removing the metal base under the crowns, we no longer have to worry about teeth that show dark lines or patients having metal allergies. The new Zirconia Base Ceramic Crowns have the amazing ability to block out unsightly dark areas while retaining translucency.

Our trained technicians together with Cad-Cam Technology fabricate these crowns from porcelain or dental ceramics. They create masterpieces that look amazingly natural. This tooth-coloured restoration is translucent just like the enamel of your natural teeth. The size and shape can be carefully matched to complement the rest of your smile. With time these metal free crowns and bridges have increased strength and can be placed anywhere in the mouth since metal free crowns are inert in the oral environment your gums will be pink and healthy.

Porcelain crowns and other ceramic materials are not new to dentistry and have been used for over 180 years to give teeth strength and beauty. These Bio-compatible materials provide the patient with safe, durable and life-like undetectable restorations.

  • Dental Abscess

A dental abscess is a collection of pus that can form inside the teeth, in the gums or in the bone that holds the teeth in place. It’s caused by a bacterial infection. An abscess at the end of a tooth is called a periapical abscess. These abscesses tend to affect surrounding areas such as the maxillary sinuses, which in turn may cause sinus issues long term. An abscess that has been there for a long time (chronic abscess) usually finds a path of least resistance and can drain into other areas, this can lower your immune system and can lead to other medical conditions. The optimal treatment would be to remove the tooth causing the abscess and thereafter removing the abscess.

  • CBCT Diagnosis

Accurate diagnosis and treatment planning are the backbone of any medical therapy; for this reason, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and has been widely used. CBCT technology provides a three-dimensional image viewing, enabling exact location and extent of lesions or any anatomical region. It is also extensively used for treatment planning for implants as well as digital smile dentistry (DSD). A CBCT can accurately diagnose a dental abscess and the extent of it, help diagnose and check if the sinuses are clear as well as detect any temporal mandibular joint problems that is usually associated with grinding of teeth.

  • Ceramic Implants

However, they also provide an additional option in the treatment spectrum of the general implantology practice and they are one of the biggest innovations in dentistry.
